Janet currently lives, works and paints in Victoria, BC. She has a BFA from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and has taught and exhibited internationally.
My Story
I love to paint. I love the brilliance of the colours and the feel of paint being pushed around on paper. Building layers of paper, tissue, plastic, charcoal, pastel, grease pencil and ink, I don’t worry about the outcome. What is left on the surface always reveals the history of what is below.
These paintings are informed by the swirling, layered and worn rock patterns found on shorelines, where land and water meet, and where my heart often lies.
I play when I paint, and use the process to uncover my own emotional stories. I trust that a story will emerge and that, like the worn shoreline rock, my own history will be revealed.
